2009 Training for More group

2009 Training for More group

The Training for More group started in January 2008 as a way for local women to train to walk or run the More half-marathon in NYC. We’ve expanded into summer running programs, a running boot camp, a 6-person relay team who ran the Vermont 100 on 100 (100 miles mostly on VT Route 100), several smaller groups who run and walk together on a regular basis, friends and family who live far away yet use our training programs and run/walk with us when they’re in the Manchester area, and even triathlons! Our women have won numerous age group awards and medals in local races, travel to other locations for races, joyously collect medals and trophies, and proudly wear their race t-shirts. 2011 is our 4th year for the training group, and our second year at the Great Bay Half-Marathon in Newmarket, NH. You’ve seen us out on the roads - now it’s your turn to be a part of this enthusiastic and fun group of women!

Does anyone want to train for a marathon?

  2. Margaret Donovanon 28 Sep 2009 at 11:10 am

    Hi Lynn,
I’d vote for looking elsewhere. I think NYC no longer holds the appeal.

I had a lot of fun going to the MORE Race in 2009. I think NYC is a blast and it’s great to be in such a different environment. NYC has such adrenalin and I loved that for my first half marathon. That being said I’d be open to anything! Thanks Lynn

    Hey Lynn,

Count me in. I am going through some PT for my ankle with John DiBlasio, but hopefully should be good to go soon. I think I am finally ready to face the challenge of cold weather running. Whatever running groups you’re having this winter I’ll sign up for. I would love to do MORE, a full marathon, boot camp, anything. Sarah and I were also wondering if you would consider a 5k training group? We both want to break 30 mins but can’t get there. Hope to see you soon,

    Heather

Thanks everyone for sharing your thoughts about what type of training you’re interested in. I’ll definitely consider everything!

Hi Lynn, I’m really flexable as to what we do in the spring…………NYC has been fun, but a different half marathon might be really interesting!!!! and challenging……maybe something around Boston for those looking for a city fix!!!

Does anyone know when the 2010 More 1/2 marathon in NYC is yet?

  8. lynnon 02 Nov 2009 at 8:18 pm

    Hello

Do you know when the MORE 2010 marathon will be? I would also like to know if there will be both a half and a full marathon?

If this is not going to be held in the spring, any tips on women’s half/full marathons in April or May? I would prefer something for women over 40.

    Thanks.
    Lynn

There’s no word yet from the More folks as to the date of the 2010 race. Last year they were talking about just running a half-marathon, and not including the full marathon.

A good place to search for races is http://www.runnersworld.com

http://www.marathonguide.com has an extensive list of marathons, and many of those also hold a half-marathon.

It would be great if you did a 5K training group for those of us needing to get going, or improve the pace on a 5k…

  11. Lynnon 30 Dec 2009 at 7:03 pm

Look for a 5K training program later in the Spring! I’ll plan on a group to run the women-only Freihofer 5K in Albany, NY held the first weekend in June. I’ll also have a summer running program that’s designed to increase your speed, fitness and confidence for any distance. Stay tuned!

    Hi Lynn,
I’m Phoebe McChesney’s sister-in-law. I live in Pawlet and would love to join the group. I am an avid runner (have been so since high school) but I have a nasty case of Plantar’s Fasicitis. I have not run a step in eleven weeks. I got fitted for orthotics the week before Christmas and am painfully breaking them in. It is very slowly getting better. God, how I want to run, but the pain tells me not to. I have never had an injury sideline me for so long. My favorite races are 5k’s. Training for a half marathon would have been something I would have considered before this injury but I need to play it by ear for now. I would be very interested in 5k training and hopefully could join the group in a couple of weeks to a month. Is there room for me? Am I too late?
I was running 28 minute 5k’s last summer. Want to get it under 24 minutes. I know that’s a stretch. I’m 46 years old. My PR for a 5k is 18:31. But that was 22 years ago.
Let me know what you think

  13. Lynnon 13 Jan 2010 at 1:39 am

Hi! Plantar fascitis can be extremely difficult to treat. Rest and ice are key, and you may need to hold off running even longer - as difficult as that is! I’ll have 5K race training in the Spring and Summer, and hope that you can join us then.

    Lynn
