I joined Lynn’s group over 5 years ago. I was a bit “more mature” than a lot of the other women and was never considered an athlete in high school (or anywhere else for that matter). My youngest daughter encouraged me to join and follow Jeff Galloway’s program of run/ walking. I ran my first half- marathon, sponsored by More Magazine, in Central Park NYC ..I haven’t looked back since…I made the leap to a full marathon a couple of years later. I have completed 3 marathons ( …incredibly, the Paris , last April..with daughter) and am currently passing on all the knowledge I gained by being one of Lynn’s Ladies, to my son . We plan running a half-marathon in FL in early Feb. It will be my son’s first…but guaranteed, not his last…if you have the chance…just do it…don’t worry about being slow..or last..you won’t be..remember, the last person is the one still sitting on the couch!
I joined Lynn’s running group in January 2012 and under her guidance and with her encouragement ran/walked 3 half marathons and several 5ks and a 10k. She is an inspiration to me and to many others. The group as a whole is so beneficial to keep your enthusiasm up, to laugh, to share and to celebrate! I love our group and if anyone in Arizona is considering joining a group led by Lynn: DO IT!!
As I reflect on the last two years when this all started for me, it continually amazed me how I have grown as a runner as well as a person. Goals that I would have never have dreamed of have been reached or expanded in my quest for “I can do more”. In running I have found a tranquility and a great group of new friends, some of which I have grown to know more than others, but all of whom I am lucky to know. I have found pride in myself, as well acknowledge and support from people who have entered my life thru running, as well as my family and friends that have supported my new venture in life, and of course Lynn.
Lynn, I just wanted to write to say thank you. I know that in the end I did it, but I would have never have done it without you. I have learned so much over these last few months from you and I really appreciate it.
This run wasn’t just about finishing a race for me. It was about a 2 1/2 year struggle for the loss of 100 pounds, shedding a lifetime of feeling uncomfortable in my own skin, reaching high personal goals, believing in myself and over coming injury…just to name a few of the ingredients in my own personal emotional cocktail. It was a HUGE success and accomplishment for me that I was able to reach because of you. Thank you for grabbing me at the finish and weeping tears of joy with me! It was a big honking deal for me.
Thoughts from coaching clients
I wanted to lose a significant amount of weight and get more fit. As a retiree of 66, I felt that I was aging fast. However, experiences of yo-y o dieting made me think someone to be accountable to and go along on the journey with me would be helpful. Lynn has not only been ‘helpful’ – she has been a positive and inspiring coach.
Why? She asks acute questions that make me reconsider destructive habits, without making me feel ashamed of myself. She is encouraging in ways that are very specific to my situation, accomplishments, goals and needs. She helps me to see myself and my future in a more positive light.
Because she has the know-how, she can suggest a makeover for a favorite food, ‘reward’ me for my activity by telling me, in terms of current science, that I have moved from ‘sedentary’ to ‘active’. She can give me a pointer when I am not sure which way to go, reinforce good discoveries, and just be there in a consistently non-judgmental way as I travel this ‘old road’.
This is the essence of great coaching – not making you fit a mold and bullying you into hopeless striving, but consistently guiding you toward your own best potential.
